If you have shabby reception furniture, then you don’t want this to draw the eye first, so the recommendation is to put some flowers on the table to make a subtle impact. Reds flowers usually work best, as they capture the eye gaze first.

However, it really does depend on just how bad your current reception furniture is. If you just have a bit of upholstery fraying round the edges, then you might be able to get away without having to buy new furniture.
