The last decade in the music sector have been tough. It has been widely reported that illegal downloads have been cutting the earnings of both the singers themselves and their record labels. Despite lots of talk and action it would seem that there is virtually nothing that can be done to stop these illegal services. Instead the music sector has had make an attempt to reverse the situation and has now embraced the download. By making paid downloads reasonably priced and very easy to purchase they have combated the problem to a certain extent.

However town centre retail outlets are still struggling and their situation has been made worse by the music industries attempt to protect itself. With legal, reasonably costed downloads accessible at every turn it’s no wonder the high street music outlet is struggling. It is also not helped by technology, whole record collections can now be maintained, filed and played back through very small gadgets that are becoming more capable virtually daily.

So has there been any part of the industry that has in fact benefitted from the advances in technology that have occurred over the last ten or so years? One area that has certainly had more exposure is the unsigned musician. Previously the only way to succeed in the music industry was to somehow get noticed and taken on board by a record producer. Then, and only then would things start to occur. Now the position is very different and it is in no small way as a result of social networking sites such as Myspace and the birth of Online Marketing. The social networking sites allow would be celebrities to get their music heard by a wide variety of people at no cost. And if some Online Marketing methods were used to their individual websites these bands could potentially gain access and tap into the huge download market now being supported by technology and most music producers.

In order to accomplish the expected kind of income from their efforts bands are now reverting to gigs, touring and merchandise. Of course this is great for the music lover, not only does he get to appreciate and help promote an enormous variety of artists in his chosen genre but he also get to appreciate them by possibly the most rewarding method, seeing them perform or sing live.

Bands who can make use of this new opportunity stand to potentially reach a massive worldwide audience and by making the most of their internet site via Search Engine Placement can make sure that they have the capability to earn a reasonable living and travel the world, meeting their fans. The key to it all is however their exposure. In order for Bands to make the money they need to attract the fan base that will pay for the concert tickets. Therefore the availability and success of their website is critical. Spending on a Website Optimization Company may not have been top of the list for bands of the 80’s but it is definitely a serious consideration now if they want to reach the mass market and develop the fans willing to pay for tickets at the gigs.
